I know a big question I have always had is which sports drink is better? Gatorade or Powerade?
Gatorade was invented for the FL gators football team, with the heat of FL they needed something more than just water. Gatorade was then "the" sports drink of the decade. Now there are many other choices besides gatorade which creates the big question, which sports drink is the best for you. Statistics say that both drinks are healthy just depends on which kind of exercise you are involved in.
Nutritional information:
PowerAde: serving size 8 fl oz; calories 70; fat 0g; sodium 55mg; potassium 30mg; total carbs 19g; sugars 15g; protein 0g; vitamin b6 10%; vitamin b12 10%; niacin 10%
Gatorade: 8 fl oz; calories 50; total fat 0g; sodium 110mg; potassium 30mg; total carbs 14g; sugars 14g
Gatorade: 8 fl oz; calories 50; total fat 0g; sodium 110mg; potassium 30mg; total carbs 14g; sugars 14g
Powerade contians a half the salt content but more calories, so athletes on a low sodium diets powerade is thte better choice. Gatorade has an advantage when it comes to athletes participating in hot weather climates.
The outcome between which is better seems to be a tie. It comes down to the athlete.
A great topic idea and good start. Be sure to link to references and perhaps include some expert opinion. Powerade includes protein which is also another variable contributing to post exercise recovery.
ReplyDeleteI've actually always wondered which of these two sports drinks was the better choice. I have heard a bunch of different things about the electrolytes on gatorade and powerade and things of that nature but I never really had the chance to actually look. Interms of picking between the two, I notice you stated facts for each drink related to workout and diet routines. I guess my overall question is which drink is better for the typical athlete leaving all the other aspects out of the picture?
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting post because I have always wondered which one was better for you to. In my opinion I think that powerade tastes better than gatorade. After reading the nutritional facts about each one I started to think about how I felt after I drank each one of these drinks. I always remember feeling much more thirsty after drinking gatorade, this is obviously because it is much higher in sodium. This is probably why I like powerade so much better becasue I really do not like foods with salt in them.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting blog, I think it was interesting because the battle between which is better has gone on for so long. I think if people knew that each drink had different benefits it would help them pick the correct one for their excerise. I have always leaned towards powerade myself and its nice to know there is less salt in that. People need to keep in mind that these drinks are good along with exercise but it is a juice so it does have its down sides.
ReplyDeleteI always question my self which one I should drink. If it is between the two of them I usually pick gatorade. I just think that it tastes better then powerade. I think that this is a very interesting blog because a lot of people chose either gatorade or powerade when they are working out or playing in a sports game.
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great topic because I have always wondered the same thing. I like gatorade more but I never knew which has more benefits when I'm working out or playing a sport. It's interesting to see how close they are nutrition wise. I'll have to keep in mind to pick Gatorade when I'm working out in the summer or when it's hot!
ReplyDeleteThis is interesting to me because I tend to be a water drinker and yet I always hear that its a good idea to choose a sports drink because of the nutrients you loose when working out. I think I would choose gatorade over the too, just because I find its more common and I've definitly had it a lot more than powerade. It's interesting to see though that there isn't much of a difference and I can be happy going either way :).
